Destination Excellence

Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI), Washington, DC

ImageDestination Marketing Association International (DMAI) is the most important and widely-respected organization focused on the needs of the destination marketing industry. Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) are responsible for driving business, convention and leisure visitors to their destinations.  The Destination & Travel Foundation, a complementary organization to its parent organizations, DMAI and US Travel Association, conducted a landmark national study clearly identifying several opportunities to engage industry members and friends in a special effort to strengthen the industry. Planning for a major fund-raising campaign to provide the Destination & Travel Foundation with the necessary financial resources to meet new needs, while also maintaining existing vital programs and services, began soon after. CCS is assisting DMAI and the Destination & Travel Foundation in a special $4,000,000 campaign designed to address the three most pressing issues facing the business and leisure travel industry - relevancy, technology and social responsibility. This highly successful campaign recently surpassed its $4,000,000 goal, raising over $4,080,000. 

Advancing the Chemical Sciences

Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), London, England

ImageCCS worked with the Royal Society of Chemistry to establish a development office and conduct a major gifts campaign, helping the Society to receive its first seven-figure commitments and involve its governing Council in new ways. Entitled Advancing the Chemical Sciences, the campaign for the RSC raised more than £5 million to support education, innovation and the establishment of a Pan-Africa Chemistry Network.

New Challenges--New Solutions

American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, Alexandria, VA

ImageAmerican Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) is an organization of physicians, biomedical scientists, surgeons and health professionals with an interest in the liver and its diseases. AASLD awards and fellowships have sponsored and encouraged highly trained physician scientists and healthcare professionals who are transforming liver disease from a terminal to treatable (and ultimately, preventable) condition.

Faced with declining industry and government support for research and training, AASLD leaders recognized the need to shore up their own funding to support hepatologists and young investigators. The New Challenges--New Solutions campaign sought to raise $5,000,000 to support research and educational initiatives for the hepatology field, providing funds for AASLD’s Research and Career Development Awards, Advanced Transplant Hepatology Fellowships, and Single Topic Conferences. CCS was proud to serve as fund-raising counsel and to assist AASLD in raising $6,030,000 to be invested in innovative research and emerging liver scholars. The campaign secured one gift of $2,000,000+; two gifts of $1,000,000; and six gifts of $100,000 or more. The campaign was transformative by securing significant gifts from all constituencies; cultivating a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization culminating with AASLD hiring its first director of development and the formation of a Board development committee.

Who Will Care?

Maryland Hospital Association, Elkridge, MD

ImageThe Maryland Hospital Association (MHA) is sponsoring the statewide Who Will Care? campaign to alleviate Maryland's chronic nurse shortage. The goal of Who Will Care? is to double the number of RN graduates (est. 1,500 per year) in Maryland. The total coast to initiate enrollment expansion is $60 million. The Who Will Care? campaign will raise a minimum of $20 million in philanthropic support. MHA and other stakeholders will secure the remainder from public sources over the next five years. The campaign has already raised 72% of it goal and looks forward to exceeding its objective by the end of 2009.

The ACRIN Fund For Imaging Innovation

American College of Radiology (ACR), Reston, VA

Amnesty International USAFor over three quarters of a century, the American College of Radiology (ACR) has devoted its resources to making imaging safe, effective, and accessible to those in need by providing training and certification programs for its nearly 33,000 members. The ACR Imaging Network (ACRIN®), a national clinical trials consortium under the leadership of ACR, is dedicated to conducting clinical cancer trials of diagnostic imaging and image-guided therapeutic technologies as they relate to cancer. To fulfill the promise of ACRIN® and accomplish new goals, ACR established The ACRIN Fund for Imaging Innovation. This campaign – the first of its kind for ACR – seeks to raise monies for the ACRIN® Fund by reaching out to corporations, foundations, and individual members for philanthropic support. Although the campaign is still underway, ACR has already exceeded its $5,000,000 goal. More significant gifts are expected as others are invited to participate in the ground-breaking work of ACRIN®. CCS is proud to be assisting ACR with this highly successful effort in the fight against cancer.

The Campaign For The Community Practitioner Program

North Carolina Medical Society, Raleigh, NC

Lion's Clubs InternationalToday in its 156th year, the North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) is the state’s oldest and largest professional medical association with over 12,000 members. The North Carolina Medical Society Foundation (NCMSF) is its philanthropic arm, with a mission to improve access to quality health care for all North Carolinians. The NCMSF’s Community Practitioner Program (CPP) has a fifteen-year successful track record of placing primary care physicians, physician assistants and family nurse practitioners in rural, economically distressed and medically underserved areas of the state. CPP has helped provide an estimated $226 million in health care to the uninsured. To secure the Community Practitioner Program, the Foundation recently partnered with CCS to launch a $10 million capital campaign, which surpassed its initial goal in the first ten months. The goal has been increased to $20 million to ensure CPP’s future in the face of increasing numbers of uninsured North Carolinians and a decreasing supply of primary care providers. CCS is proud to assist NCMSF in this landmark campaign.

Society of Automotive Engineers Foundation, Troy, MI

Nigeria Higher Education Founded in 1986, the SAE Foundation nurtures student enthusiasm for science and technology education to ensure a future workforce of engineers and scientists through their cornerstone educational programs. Internationally recognized, the SAE Foundation is the leader in the promotion and expansion of education for professions related to mobility. SAE and its 89,000 worldwide members support A World In Motion and the Collegiate Design Series educational programs, scholarships and awards, the featured centerpieces of SAE’s educational initiatives. The Foundation’s Inspiring A New Generation campaign is raising $20,000,000 to expand its outreach throughout North America.

International Accounting Standards Committee(IASC)

London, England
CCS assisted the IASC in raising public and private funds to help underwrite the budget of the Foundation’s subsidiary, the International Accounting Standards Board, and establish international financial accounting standards. Over 130 multinationals, banks, stock exchanges, money managers, central banks and inter-governmental organizations from 31 countries have committed over $90,000,000 to IASC.

The New Vision Campaign

American College of Prosthodontists Education Foundation, Chicago, IL

The New Vision Campaign was an unprecedented undertaking that generated financial support for initiatives which addressed four core areas of need:

  • Promotion of graduate student recruitment by providing scholarships and educational grants
  • Design and implementation of programs to recruit and retain the finest Prosthodontic faculty in dental schools
  • Development of marketing strategies to increase awareness and overall understanding of Prosthodontics
  • Support for scientific and market research for the betterment of Prosthodontics

Hospitality 2000: Building Leadership For The Future

American Hotel & Motel Association, Washington, D.C.

American Hotel & Motel Association (AH&MA) is a federation of state lodging associations in the United States, representing 11,028 lodging properties worldwide and 1.5 million rooms. The American Hotel Foundation, established in 1952 is the charitable foundation of the AH&MA, with a mission to promote education, careers, research and training for the benefit of the lodging and hospitality industries.

In 1996, AHF, through the leadership of leading hoteliers and industry executives, raised $6,701,000 on a goal of $6,000,000 to create scholarship, research and training programs and endowments.

In 1999 the AHF provided over $350,000 in scholarship funds to students pursuing careers in the lodging industry and over $650,000 in research funding. Over $200,000 supported other initiatives important to creating a better future for the lodging industry.

Envisioning The Future Of Eyecare

American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, Fairfax, VA

CCS completed a very successful and innovative campaign for the premiere international professional association of ophthalmic surgeons (9,000 members worldwide). More than $4.6 million was raised on a $4 million minimum goal to create and endow a new 501c3 philanthropic foundation for ASCRS, with raised funds to be used for research on new technologies and patient outcomes, especially with the boom in LASIK eye surgery, a public awareness endowment to enhance the role of ophthalmic surgeons and recognize excellence in the profession, and also for a Charitable Eyecare Fund, to address pediatric eye disease and vision needs of people in developing and impoverished countries. Of the total raised, more than $3 million came from individual member physicians, complemented by six-figure gifts from the leading ophthalmic technology and products companies such as Alcon, Bausch & Lomb, Allergan, Visx, and AMO. One gift of $1 million was given by a long-time physician-member, and there were six other personal gifts at the six-figure level. The campaign was led by Howard Fine, MD, and ASCRS Executive Director David Karcher.

The Centennial Campaign: A Commitment To Excellence

American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS), Arlington Hts, IL

The American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) is the leading professional society representing more than 1,000 board certified Colon and Rectal surgeons and other surgeons dedicated to advancing and promoting the science and practice of the treatment of patients with diseases and disorders affecting the colon and rectum. CCS designed and directed a successful $5 million campaign to support the ASCRS Research Foundation, an arm of ASCRS dedicated to promoting and disseminating research related to colorectal diseases. The success of The Centennial Campaign increased the Research Foundation's endowment more than four-fold.

Food Marketing Institute, Washington, D.C.

The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) is a nonprofit association conducting programs in research, education, industry relations and public affairs. Its 1,500 domestic member companies operate approximately 21,000 retail food stores with a combined annual sales volume of $220 billion. The Safeguarding Our Last Link campaign raised over $10 million to inform consumers and help reduce the incidence of food-borne illness.

The Center is a state-of-the-art facility offering an extensive array of programs, resources and community networks that provide opportunities for association professionals to achieve personal and professional success.

Envision 2003 Campaign

Meeting Professionals International (MPI), Dallas, TX

Meeting Professionals International (MPI) is the largest association for the meeting profession with 19,000 members in 66 chapters and affiliates. They serve as the global authority and resource for the $102 billion meeting and event industry. The Envision 2003 Campaign raised more than $5 million to create timely and valuable industry research, provide additional funding for MPI educational programming at the chapter level, establish an even greater global presence for its membership, and many other benefits.

The Foundation For The Future Campaign

National Business Travel Association (NBTA), Alexandria, VA

The NBTA’s Foundation for the Future campaign raised over $4,000,000 to provide ongoing financial resources to conduct research initiatives beneficial to the entire business travel industry; to support educational and research offerings for business travel industry professionals; and to provide scholarship opportunities for business travel professionals.
