A Sense Of Place — Campaign For The West Branch
Forest Society of Maine, Bangor, ME
Forest Society of Maine (FSM) is a statewide land trust dedicated to working in partnership with landowners to conserve the many values of Maine's forestland. FSM recently announced the successful completion of the $35 million West Branch Campaign and the permanent conservation of 329,000 acres in Maine's Northern Forest. This momentous achievement — the largest contiguous tract ever conserved in Maine — is a combination of 47,000 acres of land purchased for the people of Maine, and a 282,000-acre conservation easement that ensures sustainable forestry, ecological protections, and traditional recreational access for generations to come. CCS is proud to have served the Forest Society of Maine as the campaign manager of the West Branch Campaign and to celebrate FSM's ongoing efforts to ensure the enduring stewardship of the West Branch legacy.
The Campaign For Connecticut: Saving Our Last Great Places
The Nature Conservancy Connecticut Chapter, Middletown, CT
The Campaign for Connecticut was launched in 2000 to support a dramatic expansion in the Chapter’s conservation efforts in critical areas across the state. These landscapes, which are especially vulnerable to threats like incompatible development, include the Saugatuck Forest Landscape in Fairfield County and the Tidelands of the Connecticut River. The campaign raised more than $48,000,000 on its $46,000,000 goal. Following the success of Campaign for Connecticut, CCS and The Nature Conservancy in Connecticut recently began the planning stages for a capital campaign, scheduled for 2007.
The Trust for Public Land (TPL) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving land for people. Since 1972, TPL has partnered with willing landowners, community groups, and government agencies to complete more than 3,000 land conservation projects in 46 states. CCS is proud to have served TPL and their project partners, the Maine Department of Conservation and the Baxter State Park Authority, who recently celebrated the successful completion of the Katahdin Lake Campaign. This historic effort surpassed a $14 million fund-raising goal and permanently conserved more than 6,000 acres including old growth forests and miles of pristine shoreline surrounding Katahdin Lake. Inspired by the incomparable vision and generosity of the park's founding benefactor, Governor Percival P. Baxter, the Katahdin Lake Campaign engaged the philanthropic support of more than 1,200 private donors. On May 15, 2007, Baxter State Park welcomed the first of their nearly 100,000 annual guests to experience the peaceful splendor of Katahdin Lake.

Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ) is a conservation, education, and membership organization that supports the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, D.C. FONZ has launched a capital and endowment campaign to underwrite the costs associated with bringing two giant pandas from China and constructing a new Giant Panda Habitat and a Conservation Learning Center. CCS designed a campaign plan, which helped FONZ to raise $38 million to support these efforts to further enhance the National Zoo's reputation as a world leader in animal exhibition, scientific research, and education conservation.

A Legacy Of Landscapes: The Campaign To Save The Last Great Places In Massachusetts
The Nature Conservancy Massachusetts Chapter, Boston, MA
The Massachusetts Chapter’s Legacy of Landscapes campaign began as an effort to raise $30,000,000 to protect land of high ecological significance in Massachusetts. Priority fund-raising sites included the Southern Berkshires, the Westfield River Watershed, the Massachusetts Islands (Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket), and the Plymouth/Cape Cod area. Due to the extraordinary generosity of supporters throughout the state, the campaign raised over $61,000,000 in eighteen months. An exceptional effort on the part of board members and volunteers made this campaign a strong success and the funds raised are helping the Massachusetts Chapter to dramatically step up critical conservation efforts.
The Nature Conservancy Michigan Chapter, Lansing, MI
The Nature Conservancy in Michigan recently completed the largest public-private conservation agreement in the state's history. This incomparable deal protects 271,000 acres of pristine forest, water and shoreline, while connecting more than two million acres of previously protected lands stretching across the entire Upper Peninsula. Inspired by this monumental project, The Nature Conservancy launched and successfully completed a monumental $78 million campaign to implement unprecedented levels of conservation throughout the state. CCS is proud to have assisted The Nature Conservancy in reaching historic fundraising success -- the results of which are allowing for the continued protection of Michigan's priority forest, water, and shoreline sites; identification and management the daunting threats to the landscape; and stewardship the land, investing in the long-term vitality of the last great places in Michigan.
