THE CHALLENGE
The Catholic Foundation of Northeast Kansas (CFNEK) is the gift planning arm for the Archdiocese of Kansas City. CFNEK engaged CCS because the CFNEK board wanted to see the CFNEK’s potential to increase endowment, scholarship, and donor-advised fund assets to increase the long-term sustainability of the parishes, schools, and ministries of the archdiocese. CFNEK had not previously documented planned gifts or promoted its own donor-advised fund (DAF) and other noncash asset-giving vehicles. CFNEK also aimed to raise awareness of the foundation to parishes and schools in the archdiocese and deepen those relationships.
THE SOLUTION
CCS’s gift planning assessment included 51 constituent interviews and an e-survey that identified substantial gifts to the archdiocese in future cash confirmed and considered by 198 donors totaling between $43 million and $92 million. Further, we uncovered 440 priority legacy-giving households through a predictive modeling data analysis with a potential giving capacity of $22 million.
CCS interviewed seven (7) Catholic foundations for benchmarking data to fully understand their approach to gifts of noncash assets, planned giving staffing, and confirming the best peer gift planning practices, which vary greatly in experience, execution, and success. Finally, we crafted an enhanced planned giving roadmap to brand the foundation as the expert in gift planning across the archdiocese and local Catholic organizations and recommended the foundation hire two (2) additional fundraising positions to focus on gift planning.
THE impact
Since our partnership, CFNEK has launched its program by visiting donors and documenting gifts, including those of real estate and other valuable assets. The foundation has also begun marketing its DAF and has implemented the marketing communications plan we created to engage more extensively with Catholic parishes in the archdiocese. CFNEK has now established relationships in its served parishes and created new parish endowments and scholarships for parish schools.
Featured Team Member
It was a great honor to partner with the Catholic Foundation of Northeast Kansas to elevate their Gift Planning opportunities. Through a Gift Planning Assessment, their strong and loyal donors shared indications of significant gifts of noncash assets. We provided a roadmap that will enable them to accomplish immediate goals and build a continuous pipeline of faithful donors. It has been a pleasure to hear of their success and see the results of their efforts.
